Dollar Heroes

A film by Sebastian Weis, Carl Gierstorfer, Jonghun Ryu and Wonjung Bae

The North Korean regime maintains one of the world’s largest forced labour systems. The government, short of cash due to international economic sanctions, sells its own people as labourers to work in companies in Russia, China and a dozen other countries around the world – including member states of the European Union. This investigative documentary exclusively shows the inhumane conditions under which North Korean labour brigades are forced to live and work, and it sheds an important light on how this state-organized human trafficking helps to finance Kim Jong-un’s nuclear program.
